How it Pays and Plays

With a 4 reel 4 row grid you will start off with 2401 ways to win in play. However, this can leap up to a whopping 65,536 ways to win if you activate all the Sticky Wilds which come into play in the bonus feature.

The maximum win possible is also 65,536x as you’ll see that the top paying symbol pays 1x for 4 of a kind.

The RTP is set at 96.60% and cannot be changed by casinos, this is the only RTP level offered and that’s really the way it should be across all slots, for that we’re thankful to Big Time Gaming as you always know you’re playing at a fair level and there’s no need to check the RTP out to see if you’re getting a lower level, which is what happens a lot at many, many casinos.

The level of volatility is marked as being high and you would expect that when you see a max win of 65,536x.

Stakes range from 0.1 coins up to 20 coins, making it possible that this could be a slot which you’ll see having free spins given away on as promos in various casinos.

The free spins round comes with Sticky Wilds and Chocolate boxes which can really crank up the win values if they contain multiple high value symbols, just like in donuts.

Sound and Graphics

Chocolates is set on a background of the Swiss Alps and it looks pretty nice, giving a fresh and peaceful vibe which I really like. The reels are framed on a wooden Swiss clock in the shape of a house and you can see the cogs in the background. You’ll also see a little wooden mouse popping out of the house/clock once you land 2 Scatter symbols and if the third lands to trigger the bonus the mouse will start to ring the bell. It’s a nice little touch and exciting to see the mouse appear as you know you’re possibly in for a bonus round.

The soundtrack is perhaps a little bland but it isn’t off-putting and includes your typical Big Time Gaming sound effects.

Lower value symbols are Ace to 9 playing cards whilst premium symbols are various fancy looking chocolates, of which the purple one is the highest valued and pays 1x for 4 of a kind. This sounds low but when you take into consideration the boxes which can contain 4 of a kind it’s easy to see how the wins can stack up very quickly.

There are 2 Wild symbols which substitute for any symbol but not the Scatters.

Scatter symbols are Clocks and you need to land 3 to trigger the bonus round.

Golden Ticket Wilds

One of the Wilds is a Golden Ticket Wild, which, if it lands, will have a 6x multiplier, these multiply each other if they land together. Since they only land on reels 2, 3 and 4 you can get up to a 216x multiplier one any given spin in the base game.

Chocolate Box Feature

Whenever a chocolate box lands it will open to reveal between 1 and 4 of the same symbol. Landing multiple boxes means that they will all open to reveal the same symbol. This opens up the possibility of increasing the max ways to win to 2401 in the base game.

Free Spins Bonus

chocolates free spins bonus

Land 3 or 4 Scatter symbols and you’ll get a 6x or 20x multiplier + 7 or 10 free spins. The background will turn to nighttime once the free spins starts and you’ll see that the chocolate boxes turn into Sticky Wilds once they land.

The Scatter symbols can also turn into sticky Wilds from the start of the bonus, staying where they landed as a Sticky Wild. If this happens or not is random and you can’t predict it though.

The bonus can’t be retriggered with more Scatters but if you fill an entire reel with Sticky Wilds it’ll give you an extra free spins. Manage this on all the reels and you end up with a maximum of 22 free spins should you have landed 4 Scatters to start with.

Where the free spins can be frustrating is if you land a load of Sticky Wild chocolate boxes on reels 2, 3 and 4 but not reel 1, as you can still get dead spun into oblivion. So, it’s vital to get them on reels 1, 2 and 3 to ensure every spin is a winner.

If you get the whole screen filled with Sticky Wild chocolate boxes and they open to reveal 4 purple symbols then you will hit the max win potential of 65,536x.
