Back in July 2018 it was announced that the Golden Entertainment Group had put in a bid to buy two Laughlin based casinos for some $190million. Those two casinos were the Edgewater Casino and the neighbouring Colorado Belle Casino that Marnell Gaming has been very eager to sell.
The only hurdle left for Golden Entertainment, who it does have to be said have been on something of a land based casino buying spree recently, was to get approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and that approval has just been officially announced.
To be perfectly honest though, there was never any real doubt that they would get the green light to go ahead with that purchase, for they are a solid company and one that has been investing heavily in their recent acquisitions, including the Stratosphere Casino in Vegas that has been going through a major 130 million dollar remodel over the last year.
Golden Entertainment recently also purchased the impressive Aquarius Casino in Laughlin, and those two additional casinos which they are expected to close the deal on later this month of the 20th of December will mean that they will own three casinos in Laughlin, all of which are in walking distance of each other.
I have been to Laughlin many times over the years and whilst the Aquarius has always been a very well presented and desirable property to stay at, it is very true to say that both the Edgewater Casino and Colorado Belle Casino are in need of a makeover and refurbishment.
No plans have yet been announced by Golden Entertainment as to what they intend to do with those casinos from a refurbishment point of view, but if the Stratosphere current remodel is anything to go by those two casinos will have plenty of money thrown at them in the coming months.
