There are many things that gamblers can expect when visiting the Lady Luck Casino in Gardena, they will of course have more than enough gaming opportunities, and can grab a drink or something to eat too and while away the hours.
However, something no one could have predicted happened on Monday morning and that was that the roof caved in.
Firefighters quickly responded to a flood of 911 calls and sped to the scene, and upon arrival they set about rescuing the many injured people that had been hit by falling debris, and then evacuated the property to perform a full inspection of the area and to check for anyone else that may have been tapped.
In total some 11 people have been injured in the incident seven of whom were taken to the nearby hospital, fortunately all bar one of those people who were taken to hospital suffered minor injuries, with one woman sustaining moderate injuries which were compounded due to a pre-existing condition she is suffering from.
It was the gaming table area of the gaming floor that was worst affected by the collapse of the roof, which does appear at first glance to have been caused by two air conditioning units that had recently been placed on the roof, but that has yet to be confirmed as the cause of the incident.
The property also experienced a major water leak due to the roof collapse, and the casino operators and city officials have urgently commissioned local architects to check the property to see just what did cause the roof collapse. It is not known when the casino will reopen again.
