A new range of fantasy sports products will be available for UK customers following approval from the UK Gambling Commission.
A dozen betting operators who hold existing agreements with betting technology company Scout Gaming will be free to introduce fantasy sports products after the company was awarded a licence to operate in the UK.
Speaking about the license approval, the CEO of Scout, Andreas Ternström, said that the company had not been deterred by the tougher regulatory environment in the UK market, and would now be able to offer its services to other companies based in the UK market:
We are delighted to have been awarded a B2B licence from the UKGC, allowing us to address yet another regulated market with great potential.”
Fantasy sports and pool betting
Scout has built up a reputation as one of the leading companies in the fantasy sports and pool betting sector, and over recent months has struck deals with twelve operators, many of which serve the UK market, hoping to take advantage of the growing popularity of fantasy sports games.
While there has been a growth in many sports betting markets over the last few years, fantasy-based games have proven particularly popular with younger and wealthier players, party as they offer a more obviously skills-based challenge than traditional betting, but also because they are easy to grasp for a generation who have grown up playing video console and mobile games.
Scout Gaming Group has also expanded into the US market, and has been developing new products for the fantasy market. Fantasy sports games are particularly popular in the US, where the traditional illegality of sports betting enabled fantasy sports companies to establish a strong market presence. Since the effective legalisation of sports betting in May, many of those companies have also begun to develop official sports betting products.
