The top baseball league in Mexico has reached a deal with a leading sports data and technology company designed to tackle corruption issues.
The Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB) has signed up with Genius Sports, and will use the company’s data systems and technology to boost the integrity of its competition. Genius Sports bet monitoring system will review all LMB-focused betting markets in real time, identifying any suspicious patterns at an early stage, enabling the LMB to better target integrity issues.
Announcing the deal, the President of the LMB, Javier Salinas, said that the League and all associated with it were focused on tackling corruption at every level of the sport:
For the LMB, it is of the utmost importance to take preventive measures against any action that may lead to the corruption of our games. It is important that our fans and commercial partners have absolute certainty of the ethics and values of our league.”
Prevent match-fixing
Salinas went on to say that integrity was vital to the continued global success of the league, and that the deal with Genius Sports would put the LMB at the forefront of efforts to root out corruption in sport.
As part of the deal, Genius Sports will also develop and run a range of workshops and other consultations to help LMB and its players, umpires and officials become more aware of integrity issues and to be better placed to prevent match-fixing.
The Integrity Operations Director at Genius Sports, Ben Paterson, said that the companies 24/7 bet monitoring protection service would help to spot potential irregularities, and that they were looking forward to working with the LMB in protecting the integrity of their competition.
