Octopus Treasure slot is a September 2020 release from slots developer Play’N Go. Taking us on an underwater adventure with a giant looking Octopus bobbing away below the waves and opening up treasure chests to unlock a range of rewards, this is an entertaining slot with a range of bonuses to keep gameplay engaging. How it Pays and Plays

Played out on a 5 reel 3 row grid we’ve got 20 fixed paylines which pay left to right.

The RTP is set at a respectable 96.53% at its default rate which is higher than you’ll often find. Symbols and Graphics

Play’N Go always produce top notch looking slot games and Octopus Treasure is no exception. The background is that of the seabed with some rocks and sandbanks rising to the sides, you can see some starfish, what looks like an old shipwreck and some coral. There are a few fish and bubbles moving across the screen and the reels are framed in coral growths.

The reels are transparent and behind them sits the octopus, he/she/they or whatever, is bobbing away happily behind them and looking ready to explode into a frenzy of action, dishing out 100x multipliers here there and everywhere – well, not quite, it’s sitting serenely waiting to assist you in the bonus rounds. It looks pretty good and is a nice little mascot to help the slot take on some personality.

Lower paying symbols are the 4 suits, hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds. 

Going on the the premium symbols and we have what looks like 3 clay jars, then a bag of valuable(ish) looking bronze coins, a silver jar and the top payer is a golden crown and some gold coins which gives you 3.5x for 5 of a kind. Nothing seems to be particularly high paying and so it’s the multiplier function that is really needed to boost the wins to respectable amounts. 

There is a Wild symbol that subs for all other symbols, except for the Scatters or the Treasure Chest. 

The Scatter symbol is an Oyster shell which opens up to reveal its pearl inside once it lands. These land only on reels 1, 3 and 5.

The Key, when this land it triggers one of the 4 bonus rounds by opening the Treasure Chest above the reels.

Multiplier Bonus

You can be awarded with a multiplier ranging from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x after any of the bonus features are triggered. It’s really like the Jolly Roger 2 Slot here, as is the Wild reels bonus and the general water seafaring type theme of things. 

Bonus Rounds

There are 4 separate bonus rounds which can be triggered when the key lands on reel3 and unlocks the treasure chest and also a free spins bonus during which these bonuses come into play during each of the free spins. They are as follows.

Wild Reels

Here there’ll be 5 pots placed below the reels and you choose one at a time. Once you choose it the pot will shatter and reveal which reel will turn wild. You’ll hopefully get told to pick again up and get all 5 reels Wild, I got 4 of these first go playing in demo mode and it gave a decent win. You can also get a multiplier added at the end of the win up to, i think, 10x.

Wild Coins

Here there are a range of gold coins placed below the reels. You get to choose 3 of them which will in turn change all symbols of the same kind selected on the reels into Wilds. You can select symbols which aren’t present on the reel though, in whch case no symbols will change into Wilds.

Gold Pile

The octopus will lash out and strike various symbols turning them into higher valued ones to help make up a winning combo. 

Treasure Grab

This bonus will see the octopus come to life and all premium symbols landing in view will be smashed by one of the legs of the octopus, or is it arms, they have 2 legs and 6 arms apparently, who knew! I had to look it up anyway, so if anything you get from reading this review some expanded knowledge of octopi, or is it octopuses, octopodes or even octopede! Anyway, i digress, you’ll get a respin after the premium symbols are smashed and then another respin until there are no more premium symbols in view. The higher up the scale the premium symbol that gets smashed the higher value the reward will be.

Free Spins

Land the Scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 and you’ll get the free spins to trigger. You’ll see that the reels become empty and you get 3 respins during which key symbols will land. Once a key symbol lands it will stick in place and count as 1 free spin. The total number of keys visible after 3 respins is the number of free spins you will be awarded with.

During the bonus each free spin will see one key used and a bonus feature will come into play. Should you happen to land an extra key during any of the free spins you will get one extra free spin added to the total.
