FA Cup Magic Turns £1 Bet into £924

20 pound notes

We all believe in the magic of the FA Cup even if most teams play reserve sides in it. One lucky punter won’t care who plays in the games after a £1 bet at SkyBet won him £924.

His amazing bet needed two ‘giant-killings’ and victories for two more sides who were below their opponents in the Championship plus over 2.5 goals scored in all four selections.

The selections that won him £923 were:

  • League One side Doncaster Rovers to win at Championship team Preston North End and over 2.5 goals (9/2)
  • QPR, who are ninth in the Championship to beat league leaders Leeds United and over 2.5 goals (3/1).
  • League Two Oldham Athletic to win at Premier League side Fulham and over 2.5 goals In the game (11/1)
  • Millwall who are 19th in the Championship to beat 11th placed Hull City and over 2.5 goals to be scored (5/2).

Struggling at Half Time

At half-time it wasn’t looking too good for this bet. Only Doncaster Rovers were ahead in their game with the other three matches all level. Nine goals were needed if the over 2.5 goals part of the bet was to come up.

It got worse when Fulham and Hull City both took the lead. With 20 minutes to go, Fulham still led, QPR were 1-1 with Leeds, Hull 1-0 up at Millwall and Preston level at 1-1 with Doncaster.

Late Goals

Then the magic of the FA Cup took over. Oldham scored in the 76th and 78th minutes and won 2-1. QPR scored a winner 15 minutes from time and Doncaster got two goals for a shock 3-1 win. The big problems was Millwall v Hull. Eight minutes to go and Millwall were still losing. Then supersub Shane Ferguson scored in the 82nd and 85th minutes and the unlikely bet was won, now that’s magic.
