UK betting company Ladbrokes has announced that it will be the new title sponsor for a range of PDC darts tournaments, including the Players Championship Finals, which is staged this week.

Under the terms of the deal, the betting company will become the main sponsors for the Masters and the UK Open from 2019, and speaking about the arrangement, the PDC Chairman Barry Hearn said that it underlined the commitment of the bookmaker to the sport of darts:

It’s wonderful to be working with Ladbrokes again and this deal shows their ongoing commitment to a wide range of PDC tournaments.”

Ladbrokes have a long association with the PDC organisation, which split from the BDO in 1993 and attracts most of the world’s top players. The new partnership will enable Ladbrokes to advertise their brand at three of the PDC’s biggest televised tournaments over the course of the next four years.

The UK Open was previously sponsored by Coral – a brand that is partnered with Ladbrokes under the GVC umbrella – while Ladbrokes will be taking over the Players Championship from Swedish bookmaker Mr Green, who sponsored it last year.

The Players Championship Finals is one of the most popular of the PDC events, held over a single weekend, at the Butlins Resort in Minehead, and will be covered live on ITV 4 as well as by worldwide broadcasters. The competition features 64 of the game’s best players, including the reigning champion and four-time winner Michael Van Gerwen, and boasts a £450,000 prize fund.
