In Spain you are going to find a mix of fairly large land based casinos and some much smaller mini casinos, the latter of which are comparable to amusements arcades in the UK.
There has been a large increase in those salon de juegos, as they are known, over the last few years, and they offer games such as slot machines and automatic roulette machines.
However, over in the town of San Pedro de Alcántara, which is not far from the major holiday destination of Marbella, an armed robbery took place at the local salon de juegos located on Plaza Juan Macias on Friday at around midnight.
Fortunately no one was injured in the robbery. Two shots were fired during the raid and in total some €8,000 was stolen.
What makes that robbery fairly unusual is that it took place at one of the busiest times of the day, for from around 11pm onwards that mini casino gets very busy, and one must wonder why the robbers targeted it at the time they did as there are now plenty of witnesses.
It is believed that there were three men involved in it, and police are also of the mind that the guns used were loaded with blanks, rather than real bullets.
